JUDGING TEAM GATHERS AHEAD OF AWARDS
THE judging panel to review submissions from around the
globe, has gathered in London ahead of this year's award
finals. The judging team comprises;
Whole city;
Chair: Gabriel de Buysscher (Bel) Claudette Savaria (Can),
Rob Small (Aus/NZ), Yoritaka Tashiro
(Japan), Steve Palframan (UK) Krista Vilta
(Estonia)Projects; Gus Stahlmann (Can), Christo Coetzer
(SA), Jos de Wael (Bel), Kate Freeth (UK).
Speaking on the eve of the finals, Christo Coetzer said:
"There has been a huge leap in the standard of both
submissions and the nature of the work being carried out.
Judging these awards is a huge responsibility - you cannot
allow your emotions to come into play."
Gus Stahlmann said: "There is a trend towards projects
being more inclusive and greater consideration being to
their environmental impact." He said that the judges task
was a difficult one. "We have to balance the fact that
projects and submissions are being made from all over the
globe from large and small communities, across different
cultures and experiences. That is what makes LivCom so
special."
Jos de Wael said: "One of the most fascinating aspects of
these awards is the diversity of submissions. I think that
it is important that local authorities participate not only
to reflect on what they do themselves but also to record it
and to come to this competition to share their experiences
and best practices." First time judge, Kate Freeth, a
horticultural consultant from the UK said: "I am very
pleased and honoured to be a member of the judging team
here. This is a very worthwhile awards programme and I would
encourage communities to participate." |
