Johannesburg rewarded at LivCom
Johannesburg has won a £10,000
Bursary Award and a Gold Award in their category at the
finals of the UN backed Livcom Awards, the world’s most
prestigious finals for liveable communities (22-26
November). This year, the finals were hosted by Westminster
City Council, London, UK. The community was up against
heated competition at the finals. See the full results and

The bursary award was for a special
play area for children with disabilities in Soweto. The
award was part of Johannesburg’s presentation on the
Greening of Soweto.
Shoni Munzhectu from the project team,
said: “This wonderful award is going to change the lives of
both the recipients and the beneficiaries.”
In the section for built projects, the
restoration of the King Abdulaziz Historical Centre in
Riyadh, Saudi Arabia took first prize and a Gold Award.
In the section for natural projects,
the top prize went to the Dorothy Nyembe Education Centre in
Johannesburg which also collected a Gold Award.
