FIERCE COMPETITION AS LIVCOM AWARDS WIDEN
UNDERSTANDING OF CIVIC ENVIRONMENT THE standard of
“competition” among communities competing for this year’s
International Awards for Liveable Communities, is higher
than ever according to LivCom founder Alan Smith. With
around 100 separate bids for awards set to be judged in
London 22-26 November, the different ways in which
communities around the globe are tackling the challenges of
the 21st century will be under scrutiny in the quest to find
the most “liveable communities” on the planet. As well as
environmental issues, the award scheme judges will be
considering ways in which civic groups and councils have
actively promoted healthy living, heritage management and
planning for the future. Alan Smith said: “The standard is
improving each year. More and more communities around the
world are taking on board the fact that management of the
local landscape is critical to people. There is a movement
away from more and more building and road schemes to
emphasis on issues like clean water, clean air and quiet
areas.” The 11th running of the LivCom Awards take place
in London 22-26 November 2007. The results will be announced
at an award ceremony on 26th November. ENDS
