EMBARGO: Immediate Release

DEADLINE DATE FOR ENTRIES EXTENDED TO 30 JUNE 2008

The organisers of the 2008 International Awards for Liveable Communities have announced that the deadline for entries has been extended to 30th June 2008.

A spokesman for the awards for which the final will be held in Dongguan, China (), said: “The LivCom Judging Panel comprises of experts from six different countries and for logistical reasons it has not been possible to arrange a date when all of the judges can come together to carry out the interim judging before August. This has provided the opportunity to extend the final date for Registration in the 2008 LivCom Awards and submission of the related Written Reports.”

The final date for registration in the Whole City, Project and Bursary Award sections of the 2008 Awards has been extended to 30th June 2008. The relevant written submissions must be received by LivCom by 31st July.

In addition to the technical and professional benefits of participation in the Awards, this year's host, the City of Dongguan, is arranging a spectacular event in this exciting developing city. The city will also be providing complimentary transportation between Hong Kong Airport and Dongguan for delegates.

To enter for the awards, cities, projects and bursary candidates can register on-line at www.livcomawards.com or email: info@livcomawards for further information.

NOTE TO EDITORS:

The LivCom Awards were launched internationally in 1997 and are endorsed by the United Nations Environment Programme and the scheme is run as a UK Registered Charity.

LivCom Awards are made in three categories covering Whole City, Sustainable Projects and a Bursary Award which sees match funding of £10,000 go to the winning project. Last year’s winner in this category was Soweto, Johannesburg.

A new country has been represented at the LivCom Awards in each of the past eleven years, and now more 50 countries are regularly represented. Political delegates confirm that being exposed to the presentations of cities from other countries and cultures has provided many policy ideas that could be effectively introduced in their own community.
